Table Read
Cast Information
(updated 4/1/26)
Hello, you talented fool! My main goals in facilitating a table read are:
To have fun! Playing make believe together is fun! Let’s not take this too seriously.
To get a feel for what the show is actually like! Reading it on paper is not the same as hearing it happen in real time with different voices getting into the characters’ minds. I am hoping to gather feedback from you and others about what edits would make the show better
To “build the buzz”. There are currently no plans for this show to be produced. While I am not attached to the show being produced, I do think it would be super cool! To that end, I hope to get potential actors, instrumentalists, crew members, directors, and producers within the Cheq Bay arts community excited about jumping in and helping to make it happen.
PREPARATION CHECKLIST:
Know when your part is!
You can open the script and press “Ctrl + f ” then type in your character’s name to find all spots in the script where your character appears, so you know what to practice.
Try to keep track during the table read so you are ready to go when your part comes up.
Dialogue:
Whenever you have dialogue, please practice speaking your lines beforehand! Practice saying them out loud (with acting) multiple times before the read through!
I will have a script printed for you on Saturday.
Keep in mind that the “Table Read Script” is a new version of the script we all will use for the Table read. In this version, some of the stage directions (the text in parentheses and italics) will be read out loud during the read through—wait for these to be read before continuing with the scene. Other stage directions will have a strikethrough going through them, and will not be read out loud. The strikethrough doesn’t mean you shouldn’t incorporate the directions into the way you deliver you line—but they won’t be read out loud.
Solo music:
You can learn the songs for your character by listening to the soundtrack links below for each song.
I will accompany all songs live with a keyboard. If you’d like to practice singing your song with just the accompaniment and no vocals, see below for “Accompaniment tracks”.
CHOIR music
If you have time to learn the parts that say “CHOIR”, that would be amazing! If not, that’s ok.
I have updated the resources for learning these songs (see below) so that it is easier. I will also have printed sheet music available for you at the read through.
If the show is produced, the choir will will sing lots of harmonies in lots of songs! For this read through, I have simplified much of the music since we won’t have time to rehearse as a group beforehand.
One last thing!
I’ve asked you to do this because of your talent, dependability, and good vibes. And I totally see you being able to play this role onstage. That said, to be transparent, if the show is eventually produced, the roles may be auditioned, and there’s no guarantee if you decide to audition that you’ll be cast in this role.
