Vocal & Instrumental Music Lessons

I think of music as a practice, similar to a yoga practice. Yoga can be considered a skill that someone might ‘get better at’ by practicing—but that’s not exactly the point. Music is the same way. There are many psychological and physical benefits that come with making music, and you can expand on these benefits by building a music practice you love—one that’s perfect for your unique self. I can help you get there.

Identifying Goals

Music can be used to accomplish so many different goals. Drawing on my diverse experience and multitude of instruments (including the voice), I can help you identify and clarify a few goals that will serve you best. Here are some examples:

“I want to play the spoons along with any random song!”

“I want to sing a harmony line in tune with my aunt!”

“I want to find an instrument that I love to practice!”

“I want to write a song on the piano for my brother’s wedding!”

“I want to make a simple CD or music video!”

Lesson Time

You will be playing instruments and/or singing for most of your lesson time. This gives me a chance to assess what skills you have and what skills will help you reach your specific goals. I will provide instructional guidance, ask questions, and provide simple tasks that strategically build up these skills.

Practicing at Home

At the end of each lesson, we will talk through some musical activities you can do outside of our lesson time. The key to becoming a successful musician is getting to the point where you love to practice; in other words, finding activities you enjoy that bring you closer to your musical goals. This is usually accomplished through a combination of structure and creativity.

“Working with Vince has been a dream! Lessons are playful and engaging, and it's been deeply healing to get a chance to get back in touch with my voice. Vince is a very attentive and kind teacher and I get so, so much out of every session. <3”

–Riley, Age 29

“I liked playing the instruments. I liked playing the string instrument (the one you brought to our house in the box). I like singing Spiderman with Vince.”

—Dezzy, Age 5
